Observe yourself. Observe your body. Observe whether there is any minor tension or strains in your body;  in your neck vertabrae, in your lower back, or in the pelvic or digestive areas.

The body does not lie!

These strains are a reflection of your habits (whether conscious or subconcious) and are normally a sign that your energy is not flowing well through your body.

Pay attention to your posture. Are your back and spine straight? Are your shoulders wide open? Are you head and neck well aligned?

If the answer is no, your breathing may become short and eratic. Neither the thick air, nor the lighter air (prana) will flow correctly through your body. Instead it will remain trapped in the higher part of your body, never reaching your navel. This means you will be unable to take in long, deep breaths and may have the sensation of a lack of oxygen.

I am imagining that this can have happened to you, as it has happened to me?

If the answer is yes, don’t worry!

Simply becoming aware of our bodies physical tension and strain, as well as our posture, is the first step towards making a positive change. Having good posture is essential, because our posture is directly linked to our breathing. Our breathing in turn, directly affects our mental and emotional state.

So it is always good to stop and observe our posture throughout the day, rectifying it as and when necessary.

Kundalini Yoga (also known as yoga of consciousness) helps us to become aware of the subtle connection between body, mind and soul, as well as showing us how to free ourselves from physical and mental blocks. This allows us to gain a sense of wholeness and the ability to take action –  to act wisely everyday, in time and without limits.
