When we are impulsive we tend to be more reactive, acting from our Ego.
However when we are spontaneous, we tend to be less reactive and act from our true self, in a more free and authentic way.
Impulsion is the hallmark of people who are led by the law of karma, in a perpetual cycle of action and reaction.
Spontaneity on the other hand, is a sign of people who try to live their lives on a more conscious plain, being guided by their soul.
This is always good to remember and also to observe ourselves once in a while, because we are often impulsive without even realising it.
While we are not conscious of our own impulsivity, we cannot correct it.
So it is very important to take a step back and observe (from a place of love and compassion for ourselves) and make a resolution to be less impulsive in the future.
It’s not easy.
I am often one of the first to act impulsively, without taking that fraction of a second to act in a different way, especially when I am tired.
In those moments I always one of Yogi Bhajan’s phrases, “the basis of our elevation, lies in our consciousness with every breath we take”.
Because in that space between breaths, we can find our freedom.
