As soon as I wake up in the morning, I usually sing Wahe Guru to myself.

I have been doing this for months, ever since I read an interview with Yogi Bhajan about the importance of starting the day singing Wahe Guru.

I don’t remember exactly what he said, but it went more or less like this:

“There is nothing more beautiful than singing ‘Wahe Guru’ when you wake up. So why not try it? Would you rather wallow in your negative thoughts and neurosis? Sing ‘Wahe Guru’ instead of being neurotic. And start your day in ecstasy.”

After reading that, I started to observe my morning thoughts. And truth is that most of the time they aren’t particularly elevating. They tend to be a mixture of leftovers from dreams, things that I need to do during the day or projections. My own personal train of thought…

Much less beautiful than Wahe Guru.

Wahe Guru is an ecstatic mantra that is widely used in Kundalini yoga.

A ”Guru” is a thing or person who makes us move from the dark to the light (“GU” means darkness and “ru” means light). “Wahe” is an expression of ecstasy.

Wahe Guru expresses the incredible experience of moving from the darkness to the light, from ignorance to wisdom.

It is the mantra associated with the sixth chakra, the Anja chakra, the chakra of intuition.

When we sing it, we let our inner teacher guide us through life’s situations.

So, I invite you to try it for yourself tomorrow. Try singing it in the morning, as soon as you wake up. This mantra will stop your thoughts in their tracks like a lightning bolt, allowing you to start the day guided by the light of your soul.
